Heading up J2’s Political Unit is a task Dick Kay is
uniquely qualified for. Current and aspiring politicians have much to learn
from this seasoned TV journalist.
For 38 years, Dick Kay was Chicago television’s premiere
political reporter. He was the longest serving reporter in the history of
NBC/WMAQ. In that time, Kay covered10 presidential elections and has
interviewed every president since Richard Nixon.
During his distinguished career, he earned dozens of
national and local honors including 11 Emmy awards as well as a Peabody award.
Dick made his mark in news as a young producer covering the
historic 1968 Democratic Convention. He went on to make politics his permanent
beat in the greatest political city in the country. From the 1st Mayor
Daley, through the turbulent Chicago City Council Wars of the 1980’s, Dick Kay
was there bringing clarity to the complicated and volatile political issues he
reported on.
